New York, NY — At The Gotham Companies, experience shows.
“With more than 60 years of leadership in staffing solutions, The Gotham Companies deliver the opportunities you need to advance your healthcare experience,” said Marge Golden, MBA, RN, executive director of all the companies for 20 years.

Through the Gotham Companies, nurses and other healthcare professionals and paraprofessionals have access to a vast array of interesting and challenging assignments that enable them to develop their career potential in their own way and in their own time. What makes Gotham different is the company’s longevity, knowledge of the marketplace and the diverse opportunities made available to the Gotham nurses.

A nurse for more than 25 years, Golden has watched the industry change, especially in terms of technology. But being a nurse is something she has never regretted and would she do it all over again? “Absolutely,” she said.

Many nurses choose the field because of the variety and flexibility it provides. “It’s not just bedside nursing anymore. It’s a very exciting and challenging career,” Golden said. “As one’s life evolves, so can one’s career in nursing.”

From all the hospitals and clinics to schools, nursing homes and private practices, as well as home healthcare in the Greater New York City area, odds are they have partnered with one or more of the Gotham companies.

Pioneer in Staffing

The Gotham Companies are a group of agencies that each specializes in an aspect of healthcare and healthcare staffing. They are located in New Jersey as Midpoint Health Care Services and Midpoint Associated Practitioners; in Rhode Island as Alternative Care Medical Services; and in Florida as Patient Resources Company.

Founded in New York City by Charles Spear in 1952, the original company was named Gotham Registry Inc. After discussions with local hospital directors in the early 1970s, Spear expanded Gotham’s service model to provide supplemental staffing and, with that, Gotham Registry pioneered the supplemental staffing industry in New York.

For the past 17 years, Caroline Barrett has been president of the company. The New York office, located on the seventh floor at 75 Maiden Lane, is considered the hub. It is operates 24/7.

“We recruit nationally and internationally,” Golden said, adding the recruits are then placed in a position in one of the six states where Gotham operates. In addition to New York, clients are located in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Florida.

‘Something for Everyone’

Golden said they are currently looking to place RNs, LPNs, NPs, paraprofessionals and other allied-health professionals. Most in demand are positions in the ED, OR, labor and delivery and home healthcare.

“We are looking for quality-oriented, clinically competent nurses who are looking for a change or want to experience a top-notch New York City facility or who just want to augment their income,” Golden said. “We have something for everyone,” she said.

Gotham staffing coordinators, who are available 24/7, enjoy the daily opportunity to place a nurse in a position he or she desires. Whether it is for per diem, permanent placement or long-term travel assignments, the coordinators have something for everyone.

Nurses can register with Gotham at either its Manhattan or Bronx location at convenient times throughout the week.

Continuing education and certification classes are held on-site at Gotham.
